Data Reveals The Prevalence Of Age Discrimination

On Behalf of The Litigation Boutique LLC | Nov 10, 2022 | Blog, Discrimination, Retaliation

Whether you worry about the possibility of age discrimination in the coming years or you have already dealt with this type of mistreatment firsthand, it is crucial to understand how laws protect workers from age discrimination. Regrettably, this unlawful discrimination continues to shatter many facets of a worker’s life, significantly affecting their career and ability to support themselves and their loved ones.

If you have dealt with discrimination because of your age, or you ever experience this mistreatment, make sure you hold those who violated your rights accountable.

Looking Over Age Discrimination Charge Statistics

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission published data on charge filings regarding different types of discrimination, including age discrimination. According to the EEOC, age discrimination accounted for 21.1% of the total discrimination charge filings over the course of fiscal year 2021. During this period, the EEOC received more than 12,900 age discrimination charge filings, and this does not count charges filed at the state or local level.

Age Discrimination Charges In Recent Years

In recent years, even more people filed charges over alleged age discrimination. For example, the EEOC received over 15,500 of these charges in fiscal year 2019, and more than 20,800 during fiscal year 2016. Although fiscal year 2021 reflects a decline in comparison to previous years, far too many people continue to face mistreatment in the workplace based on their age.

If you have experienced age discrimination or unlawful discrimination for any other reason, make sure you gather evidence right away and do all that you can to seek justice.
