Working under a contract can help many employees better understand various aspects of their jobs. A worker may come to rely on his or her employment contract in order to understand salary agreements, raises, retirement and other important areas that could impact his or her life in the long run. Therefore, when contracts lapse, serious issues could come about.
Colorado residents may be interested in an out-of-state contract dispute that is currently underway. Reports stated that a school district and the education association have been going through negotiations for a contract that expired six months ago. At the time of the report, the employees were continuing to work under the terms of the expired contract, but they have concerns with the old terms that they would like addressed in the new contract.
Among the most contentious aspects are raises and the length of time that a contract is valid. The employees currently want contracts to last only a year while the school district is vying for four year terms. In regards to salary and raises, the education association is looking for $2 increases for hourly workers and a 2.5 percent increase to the base salary schedule. It was unclear how much longer the contract could be under negotiation.
Amicable and quick contract negotiations are often the most hoped-for method of coming to terms. However, there may be instances in which an employment contract proves difficult to create or update, and as a result, employees may feel the need to seek outside assistance. Colorado residents who are currently working through prolonged contract negotiations may wish to find out what options they have by speaking with experienced attorneys.
