When Colorado residents feel that they have been unjustly treated, they often want their concerns to be heard. Such is the case for one man in another state who filed a legal claim for wrongful termination. Reports stated that the man had been a county employee before he was terminated from his position, which he believes was an act of retaliation.
According to reports, the man had conducted an investigation into another worker after that worker had been accused of harassment. The investigation resulted in the worker being given the option to resign from his position or be fired. The man stated that the worker was a friend of two county commissioners, and his own termination came not long after the end of the investigation.
The man believes that he was wrongfully terminated, citing the terms of the Whistleblower Act. His claim states that he suffered emotional distress as well as negative impacts to his work life and home life in the time after his termination. The county stated that restructuring of the department was the reason for the man’s firing and disagreed with his claims of retaliation. A recent report stated that the man’s case will go before a jury in district court.
Situations in which employees feel they were treated unfairly for reporting wrongdoing can be overwhelming.
