Older Colorado residents may face employment discrimination

Many older Colorado residents may find themselves restless when it comes to their retirement. This feeling is rather common, and many retired individuals find themselves hoping to get back into the workforce in order to relieve boredom or assist with needed income. Unfortunately, many older qualified individuals could end up facing employment discrimination due to their age. As a result, they may struggle financially.

Age discrimination is something that occurs more often than many people may realize. Millions of older individuals hoping to find employment are not successful in this endeavor, and discrimination plays a considerable role in that outcome. However, it can be difficult to prove such discrimination during the hiring process, which leads the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to focus more on terminations due to age discrimination.

Though the EEOC focuses more on that area, two-thirds of workers over the age of 55 believe that discrimination during hiring processes is a real issue. It was also reported that a study pertaining to such discrimination found that out of 40,000 job applicants who participated in the study, individuals in the 49 to 51-year-old age range were called back at a 29 percent lower rate than younger applicants. Additionally, individuals over the age of 64 saw their rate drop even more to a 47 percent lower rate.

Age discrimination can be considerably disheartening for individuals looking for a job or those who have been fired from their positions. In such situations, individuals may not know where to turn for help. Luckily, there are experienced Colorado attorneys who may be able to help interested individuals who are concerned with employment discrimination.
