When someone feels discriminated against, it may be difficult to endure. When there may be others in the same establishment who have had similar experiences or have felt the same way, the process may be easier to navigate. One national restaurant chain, Buffalo Wild Wings, is now facing charges of race discrimination after two women contended they were treated poorly by management. Anyone in Colorado who feels they are subjected to taunts, humiliation or other forms of discrimination based on their race may want to follow the case.
The two women have filed a lawsuit against the chain. They are seeking more than $75,000 in damages related to lost wages and also for emotional distress related to the incidents. The women started working at the restaurant in 2006 and were apparently fired in 2013, after a management changeover back in 2012.
The women cited incidents that included the new manager telling jokes, one of which involved a chicken wing and a pregnant woman who was African-American. Other incidents cited included a manager calling an African-American employee by the names of several other men in the restaurant and saying they all looked alike. The women say they filed a complaint with the national chain and they were both fired after filing the complaint.
Everyone is entitled to feel safe and respected at the workplace. When someone feels they have been the victim of race discrimination in Colorado or elsewhere, there are legal protections they should know about it. It is vital that employees in any field understand the laws pertaining to discrimination and what to do if they feel they are a victim. They may be eligible to file a civil lawsuit in order to seek financial restitution, along with holding the party they believe negligent responsible for the discrimination they allege.
