Many individuals often dread going back to work, but for others, going back to work is a fight. Reports stated that the man had been injured on the job, and it took months before doctors indicated a need for surgery. While still undergoing physical therapy and doctor visits, the man received notice that he was terminated from his position with the town’s highway department. He filed a grievance to be reinstated as he believed his dismissal was unjust, but his grievance was denied. The situation then went through arbitration, and it was determined that the man should be hired.
At the time of the report, weeks had passed, and the man had not yet been rehired. Legal representation for the town stated that there is a plan to file an appeal of the decision. The man stated that he had no intentions of letting the matter drop, but he is uncertain what the problem is as other employees were able to return to work after missing extended periods of time due to injuries.
The loss of a job can reach far beyond creating financial issues. Individuals may face emotional distress and other hardships due to wrongful termination, and they may feel at a loss as to how to deal with the problem.
