Reporting problems may lead to wrongful termination in Colorado

Colorado residents may be interested in an employment law case that is currently taking place in another state. Reports indicated that a former fire chief filed a claim after he was terminated from his position. He had worked for the fire department for over 20 years. He filed his wrongful termination claim due to feeling he was unjustly fired.

The man stated that he had safety concerns regarding two buildings in his area, which he had inspected. He informed officials of the issues he believed were present and that he could potentially file notices that the safety issues should be improved or the buildings could be closed. He sent out the notices, and not long after, he was placed on leave and then terminated from his position.

An official claimed that the man was fired due to problems regarding his management skills and judgment. A judge’s order stated that there was evidence that the man could have been unjustly fired for being a whistle blower. The report stated that the man’s claim will move to trial, though city officials tried to avoid the claim by telling the man he could only meet with the mayor.

When reporting issues lead to an individual being wrongfully fired, that person may feel at a loss. However, as this case shows, there may be legal options that could help in such situations. Colorado residents who believe they were the victims of such an injustice may wish to look into information on wrongful termination claims in order to determine whether filing a claim could be right for them.
