Being discriminated against may have various negative effects in any situation. If Colorado residents or other individuals have faced employment discrimination, they may miss out on opportunities or even lose the jobs they already have. It was recently reported that a discrimination case is currently taking place in another state. Reports indicated that employees were fired from a hospital apparently due to religious discrimination. The employees in question had reportedly filed paperwork to be exempt from getting a flu vaccination on the grounds of their religious beliefs.
Representatives from the hospital stated that the issue was not a matter of discrimination but one of concern for patient safety. Apparently, the employees who were terminated did not file the paperwork by a certain deadline, which put patients at risk of getting the illness. However, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission considers the deadline “arbitrary” and asks the hospital to respect the religious beliefs of their employees and accommodate those beliefs regardless of such a deadline.
Employment discrimination is a serious issue, and as this case shows, certain action may be necessary if such discrimination has taken place. Employees in Colorado who feel as if they may have been discriminated against due to their religious beliefs, race, gender or other factors may wish to explore their legal options.
