Colorado workers may fear employer retaliation

Many Colorado workers likely want their places of employment to be the best that they can and operate in the most efficient and safe manner possible. However, there are instances in which employers may not always take the proper steps to ensure that companies comply with certain standards. If an employee feels that there are unnecessary risks, he or she may wish to speak up. Unfortunately, instances of employer retaliation could result.

It was recently reported that a similar situation took place in another state. Reports indicated that a woman was fired from her position after speaking out about environmental safety concerns. The company for which she worked apparently was not following certain laws, and when the worker insisted that they be followed, she was let go from her job. It was noted that she had been with the company for over 30 years.

The woman believes that she was unjustly terminated from her position as an act of retaliation. She also claims that the company participated in discrimination by treating male workers better than female workers. As a result, the woman is filing a legal claim. The company for which she worked issued a statement denying the allegations.

When individuals are faced with a situation in which they must choose between addressing issues in the workplace or being able to keep their jobs, they may not know where to turn. However, employer retaliation is a serious offense, and if a Colorado worker believes that he or she was the victim of such a violation, considering legal options may be prudent. No one should feel obligated to comply with unnecessary risks or violations, and concerned parties may wish to discuss their cases with experienced employment law attorneys.
