It is not unusual to turn on the television and see very youthful figures that look a certain way. This is just a reality of today’s youth-obsessed culture in the eyes of many. However, when this seems to occur at the expense of older employees feeling that age discrimination is at work in Colorado or elsewhere in the television industry, there can be legal consequences. Recently NBC News has come under fire for accusations of age discrimination of a news reporter.
The 70-year-old investigative journalist has complained about being the victim of age discrimination for some time. He contends he was passed over for promotion and that younger people who were less qualified got the job. He has filed suit against NBC News.
The broadcast corporation hasn’t commented on the suit. The investigative reporter is seeking damages. He has filed a long list of incidents that he says supports his case along with the contention that the company has been making a move toward what he called a “youth movement” in the last few years.
There are many ways in which a person may feel their advancing age has affected how they are treated at work. Some may feel they are pushed into retirement before they want or they may by passed over for promotions or new opportunities as younger workers prosper. If anyone feels they have been the victim of age discrimination in Colorado, they may have to prove that their job or chances for advancement has been negatively impacted. All employees should know their rights when it comes to age discrimination or any other type of discrimination.
