Overcoming the challenges of age discrimination

Employment is an integral part of the lives of many individuals in Colorado and across the country. Although there may be an overwhelming variety of fields available, a person might have a specific area in mind in which to pursue a position. Unfortunately, some individuals may be denied employment, or even receive unfair treatment at work, especially with regard to age discrimination.

Age discrimination is unfortunately a serious issue for many individuals, despite being illegal in most circumstances under the federal Age Discrimination in Employment Act. According to reports, a meeting recently took place among experts in this field, who came together to discuss the topic. Information brought to light during this time suggested that the majority of those over a certain age who were asked about employment opportunities asserted that age was a hurdle in the process.

Many of the issues these individuals may face could lie with potential employers who assume that their performance might be affected by age. Some common misconceptions that impact individuals over a certain age may revolve around being slow, or perhaps even behind on technology. In some cases, employers may feel as though hiring younger individuals may present a better image, which could also be a form of age discrimination.

Those who are subjected to age discrimination may have grounds to pursue legal recourse, but they may be uncertain how to proceed. When facing such a stressful and daunting situation, a person in Colorado could speak with an experienced attorney for assistance throughout the process. An attorney can evaluate the situation and assist a client in pursuing restitution through a claim against the party or parties deemed culpable.
